Introduction

Engineering is not about producing more paper. It is about making the right choice that holds up in reality.

For more than two decades, I have worked from every side of an industrial project: engineering contractor, equipment specialist, asset owner, project leader and entrepreneur. That range matters. It helps me see where technical choices, operational constraints, permits, safety and economics meet.

My approach is practical and direct. Understand the process first. Challenge assumptions early. Make the trade-offs visible. Then build a solution the plant can operate, maintain and trust for years.

Think clearly. Engineer practically. Deliver value.

Where I add value

Complex industrial questions, made workable.

Support can begin with one difficult question and continue through engineering, selection, commissioning and improvement.

01 /Emissions

Emission strategy & compliance

Translate permit conditions, BAT expectations, process data and measurements into a practical control strategy, not a generic technology shortlist.

02 /Decisions

Owner's engineering & technology selection

Define the real requirements, compare options on transparent criteria and protect the client's operational and commercial interests.

03 /Delivery

Process safety & project performance

Strengthen projects through peer review, HAZOP and LOPA, troubleshooting, commissioning support and clear technical leadership.

04 /Training

Training for operational & technical staff

Years on every side of industrial projects let me connect with people from the boots on the ground to the boardroom. I provide practical training on maintenance, safety and governance levels, grounded in real insight and delivered in the audience's language.

How I work

Good engineering solves problems. Great engineering prevents them.

  1. 01

    Start with the process

Production data, operating scenarios and real constraints come before preferred equipment or supplier claims.

  2. 02

    Ask the uncomfortable question early

The right challenge during concept development is far cheaper than a heroic fix during commissioning.

  3. 03

    Connect the whole decision

Safety, emissions, energy, permits, maintainability, CAPEX and OPEX belong in the same conversation.

  4. 04

    Stay close to implementation

A recommendation is only useful when operators, engineers, management and authorities can all work with it.

Clear roles. Better trust.

Independent judgment. Transparent technology access.

Clients benefit from advice that understands the market and the realities behind the equipment. Trust comes from stating the roles clearly and managing them properly.

When I advise

Criteria first. Client decides.

Interests are disclosed, the technical assessment comes before commercial discussion, the reasoning is documented and the final decision always remains with the client.

  • Interests disclosed
  • Technical assessment first
  • Reasoning documented
  • Client decides
When technology fits

Real access, without hidden agendas.

Through BM Process, selected technology partners can be brought into the conversation openly, only when their solution genuinely fits the process and project criteria.

  • Access stated openly
  • Fit tested against criteria
  • No hidden agendas
  • Roles separated

What colleagues value

Technical depth, with a human way of working.

“Bart knows how the technology should work, but he also has practical experience of running these technologies.”
Geoffrey van Elderen · Collaborator on vapour-treatment risk assessments
“His analytic skills and perseverance help him understand causality and make sound recommendations.”
Richard Simons · Former project colleague
Beyond the process diagram

Curiosity does not stop at the plant gate.

Caving, martial arts, drums, mountain biking, hiking and music have all been part of my life. Different disciplines, same instinct: prepare well, stay curious and understand what lies beneath the surface.
